Greetings From St. Louis

Since I don't have time to mail a postcard, I figured I would blog from a guest city.  I am in St. Louis for a little more than 24 hours to celebrate the nuptials for my dear friends, Matt and Fran. First let's start with how I got here.

I spent months tracking airfares, trying to find the best deal.  Finally, about two months ago, on a Tuesday (because that is the day of the week when flight prices usually drop), I found a really low fare.  The only draw back was that I had to leave at 6:00 a.m. from Bradley Airport - ughhhh.  I don't deal well when it comes to early mornings.  Even worse, my departure flight from St. Louis was at 8:06 a.m.  Money is tight these days so I couldn't pass it up.

I booked a night at the Moonrise Hotel in the Delmar Loop neighborhood of St. Louis.  So far I've only seen the lobby and the restroom where I changed into different clothes (check-in is at 3 p.m.) but it seems really nice.  The bride and groom are staying there for their wedding night and there's a rooftop bar where wedding guests are invited to join them for an after-party.  Let's see, if the after-party goes until 3:00 a.m and I need to be at the airport by 7:00 a.m. how well will I be doing tomorrow afternoon?  That's a post for another time.

Right now, I'm sitting in a Starbucks, searching the Internet as to where I can get a manicure and pedicure.  I figured I could just walk the down the street and find a salon but there are none to be found in this neighborhood.  However, there are plenty of vintage clothing shops and Thai restaurants.  Also, no one told me that St. Louis is directly under the sun.  I walked the equivalent of a half mile on my journey and was sweating so bad that I had to take shelter in the air conditioning and order an iced coffee.

In a few minutes, I plan to jump on the Metrolink and travel down to the Arch, just to say I was there, and catch a glimpse of the Mississippi River.  Then I'll shoot back up to Big Bend, another section of the city, where I'm told by someone on Yelp! that I will find a nail salon.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

Outside the window of the Starbucks, there is a trolley -- pretty fitting since I've been humming the Trolley Song from "Meet me in St. Louis" since yesterday.

Anyways, signing off from St. Louis for now -- Wish you were here!
