Change of scenery

Puerto Morelos, Mexico
I love vacation!  I know that no one in their right mind would say they hate vacation but I truly looooovvveeee vacation.  There, it's out and I'm not taking it back.  I'm in Mexico for five days to celebrate a wedding.  Wait, didn't I blog the last time I went out of town to a wedding?  Yes, I did.  Perhaps it's the romantic in me that likes to talk about going to other people's weddings.  Possibly it's because I really like my friends and I am happy when I get to share a special occasion with them.  Either way, I love having a reason to go on vacation.

We're in Puerto Morelos and the resort we are staying at is utterly fantastic.  It's an all-inclusive* resort and I've never been to one so everything is new and exciting to me.  Today, I woke up early and ordered room service for breakfast.  I am 32 years old and I have never ordered room service.  I used to work as a housekeeper at an inn and I cleaned up my fair share of room service trays (and ate leftover food off of them - don't judge) but have never been the one to take the plunge.  I ate everything on my plate with a goofy grin on my face.

Then when I read the sign that said the mini-bar was free ... well, I almost passed out.  I am one of those people who drinks the $4.00 bottle of water in the hotel room and then refills it with tap water and screws the cap back on to make it look unopened.  Yeah, it's safe to say I feel like I've died and gone to heaven here.  A beautiful, Mexican heaven where they give you a hairy eyebrow if you don't order alcohol at all times of the day and eat constantly.  No wonder people are so ga-ga for these places and to think all these years I've stayed at run-of-the-house resorts like a sucker.

It's not even the extensive amenities that have me so over the moon right now.  It's the fact that we're in a gorgeous locale with great friends to celebrate a very happy day and to just rest and relax.  I sat on the beach all morning reading a book I purchased on a whim at the airport and it felt wonderful.  Even a rain shower didn't disrupt my mood.   I sat on the balcony and listened to the raindrops hit the pool water and it was so sublime.

Sometimes just need a change of scenery to help you relax and let go.

*The one thing that isn't free is the WiFi.  That is why I'm blogging now instead of after the trip.  I have to get my money's worth for the $25 I paid to check Fantasy Football scores and check work email.
