The Golden Ticket
Some very lucky people are holding on to the winning ticket in Friday night's $319 million dollar Mega-Millions lottery drawing. According to the New York Daily News, a group of seven New York state workers bought the golden ticket that will change their lives forever.
I don't play the lottery because of a saying my father used to have about our family, that if we "didn't have bad luck, we wouldn't have any at all." Its not like there's a black rain cloud that follows me around all the time but I don't have the best of luck when it comes to winning anything. To those who do play on a regular basis, its hard not to wonder when you buy that ticket, "what if this is the one?"
Yesterday I was grabbing a cup of coffee at the local Dunkin Donuts and the girl behind the counter had a great story. Apparently the day before, she was waiting on a man who had just bought a scratch ticket at the gas station right next door. He said he had a "feeling" about the ticket, so she gave him a penny for good luck. She watched as he took that penny and scratched the ticket. Then she watched as his mouth dropped. He had just scratched off a winning combination and won $150,000. He even made her double check the ticket.
It makes you wonder if there really is some kind of Karma involved when you hear a story like that. Just like the state employees who walked into Coulson's News Center in Albany, NY and bought of bunch of tickets for their office pool. The state of New York is facing huge budget cuts right now and state workers are being asked to make concessions to keep their jobs. Maybe this nice chunk of change will lighten their load.
